An ExDM internship is a hands-on opportunity for students to intentionally pursue learning they are passionate about, and apply experience design skills, principles, and frameworks.
To graduate from the ExDM program, every student needs to complete an internship. Check out the resources provided to help guide you through the process and make the most of this exciting opportunity!
You must complete at least 300-600 hours of work at your internship
Your direct supervisor cannot be a direct relative of yours
The internship provider cannot be a student-run company
Your internship needs to relate to your ExDM learning
You must enroll in the internship class (ExDM 496R) while working on your internship

When you would like to take the Internship class/how you would like to split up the credit requirements (please read through the next section for more details)
In order to graduate you must take 1.5 credits of the Internship class, ExDM 496R.
During the Spring and Summer, the class is offered as a semester class with spring and summer combined. If you would rather take one term, it is also offered as a term class.
To enroll in the course, you will need to fill out a BYU internship application after you have gotten approval from Noelani:

Fill out the application to the best of your ability
Choose ExDM 496R: Trautman for the course
You will receive an email once Melissa and the BYU Experiential Learning Office has approved it
Add the class to your schedule on MyMap (ExDM 496R)
This class does not have lectures or regular class times. Plan to spend around 2-4 hours working on assignments for every 40 hours of work you complete. There is an assignment due around every 40 hours of work you complete. You will find all the specific assignment instructions on Learning Suite after you join the course.

Your potential supervisor may reach out and ask about the requirements for your academic internship. You can share with them the requirements listed above. Additionally, you will need their specific guidance and help on three of your assignments (setting goals and expectations, midterm evaluation, and final evaluation) as well as permission to complete your other assignments based on your experience with their company.
After you submit your internship application, the Experiential Learning Office at BYU may reach out to them to sign a simple contract if they have not had BYU interns in the past.
